Who we are
Because We Scan is a trade name of Bluewave Design, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 20168270, at Keilestraat 5A, 3029 BP Rotterdam, the Netherlands. We are responsible for the data described here.
When you use a manufacturer’s own floor visualizer, through a link from that manufacturer, we run it on their behalf. You can ask us or the manufacturer about your data.
For anything in this notice, write to info@becausewescan.com.
This website
- No tracking. No advertising, no tracking cookies, and nothing that follows you from site to site.
- Visitor counts. We count visits with Plausible Analytics, an EU service that uses no cookies and stores nothing on your device. It sees which page you open, the site or link you came from, your country and the type of device, and counts a few actions, such as sending the request form. It can’t tell who you are: unique visitors are counted with a code that changes every day, and your IP address isn’t stored. Apart from this count, the pages, their fonts and images all come from our own website.
- Our host. TransIP, in the Netherlands, serves the website. Like any web server it keeps short technical logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
- The request form. Your company, name, work email, country and what you tell us about the scan. It reaches us by email and is kept on our website’s server for 24 months, to answer you and work together. Against spam we count requests per visitor with a code that changes daily; we don’t store your IP address.
The floor visualizer
The visualizer shows a scanned floor in a photo of your own room. This is what it uses:
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| The photo of your room | To show floors in your room. We analyse the room once: where the floor is, the furniture on it and the light. Your browser then draws each floor into the photo. | The number of days the page tells you (30 in our own demo), then deleted. The same with a free account. |
| What we derive from the photo: the floor area, furniture outlines, depth and light | The same | Deleted with the photo |
| High-quality and full-size versions you ask for | To show them to you and let you download them | Deleted with the photo |
| A photo uploaded without a room being made (for example when you left before it started) | None: it is cleaned up | One day |
| A random session number in your browser | To connect this browser to the visualizer, before and after you log in | Until you clear your browser’s storage or log out |
| How many rooms and versions a session makes, per manufacturer and per day | To apply the daily and monthly limits, and to account for use to the manufacturer. These records hold no photo and no name. | 24 months, then deleted |
| Your email address and password: your free account | To show your photos on every device where you log in, and send the emails that confirm your address or reset your password | Until you delete the account |
| Your details on your account page, if you fill them in: name, company, job title, phone, address, and a picture or logo | So we know who you are and can contact you about the visualizer and our scans. Only Because We Scan sees them: we never pass them on to manufacturers. | Until you change or remove them, or delete your account |
| Your work email, if you create a manufacturer’s account on our “Start Visualizer” page | To give you access to the visualizer with our example floors, and to contact you about it. You agree to this on the page. | 24 months after you last used your link to try a room, or sooner if you ask us. The link then stops working. |
| Your company’s details, if you create a manufacturer’s account: company name, address and website, VAT and Chamber of Commerce numbers if you give them, and you as its contact person (name, job title, phone) | To set up your company’s Scan portal and contact you about it. When you save them, they are emailed to us. They also fill in the empty fields on your account page. | Until you delete your account, or sooner if you ask us |
| Your work email, if a colleague invites you to your company’s Scan portal, with who invited you and when | To send you the invitation and give you access. Your colleagues in the portal see your email address and when you last signed in. | As long as your company uses the Scan portal; your access until a colleague or we remove it |
We do not:
- ask for your name, except as a manufacturer’s contact person (above);
- use your photo to train AI models;
- sell your data, or share it with anyone but the providers below, who process it for us;
- receive the location or other data stored in your photo. Your browser draws the picture onto a canvas and sends only that, so this data stays on your device.
You can delete a photo and everything made from it at any time: the × on the photo in the visualizer.
A free account
You use the visualizer with a free account: your email address, confirmed with a link we send you, and a password you choose. Any email address will do, unless you create a manufacturer’s account: then we ask for your work email (above).
- What it holds: your email address and a password. We never see the password: only a scrambled form of it (a hash) is stored. It also notes whether you’re choosing a floor or a manufacturer, which visualizers you use and the one you used last, so a login takes you back there. On your account page you can add your details if you like: name, company, job title, phone, address and a picture or logo. Only Because We Scan sees them.
- What it does: it shows your photos on every device where you log in. They are kept for the number of days the page tells you (30 in our own demo). One account works in the visualizer of every manufacturer we run it for; each one shows only the photos you took there. Photos you took in the same browser before you made the account move into it.
- The emails: a link to confirm your address, and a link to choose a new password when you ask for one. They come from noreply@becausewescan.com. No newsletters, no advertising.
- Deleting it: “Delete my account” in the account menu. Your photos disappear from the visualizer at once. They, everything made from them and the account itself are then removed from our systems, normally within a day.
Where your data is
- Supabase: the visualizer’s database, file storage and accounts, in its EU region in Frankfurt, Germany, under its data processing agreement.
- Our own computer in the Netherlands, which analyses your room and makes the high-quality versions. Its copies are deleted on the same schedule.
- RunPod (Runpod, Inc., United States): graphics computers we rent in its data centres in the EU and in the United States, under its data processing agreement. They do the same work when our own computer is busy or switched off, and delete their copies within a day. So that another of them can make your high-quality version, a room’s analysis may also be kept in our Supabase storage for up to a day.
- TransIP, the Netherlands: the website, and the emails to account holders.
- Plausible Analytics, an EU company with servers in the EU: the visitor counts described under “This website”.
Outside the EU. When your room is prepared on a RunPod computer in the United States, your photo and what we derive from it are processed there. That transfer is covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, which are part of RunPod’s data processing agreement. You can ask us for a copy at info@becausewescan.com.
Why we may use it
- The photo, its results and an account: to give you the service you ask for (article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- The details on your account page: your consent, by filling them in (article 6(1)(a)). You can change or remove them at any time.
- The work email of a manufacturer’s account on the Start Visualizer page: your consent (article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time.
- Your company’s details: to set up and run your company’s Scan portal, at your request (article 6(1)(b)).
- The limits, the technical logs and the visitor counts: our legitimate interest in running the service fairly and safely, and in knowing how the website is used (article 6(1)(f)).
AI
The visualizer uses AI models to analyse your room and to make the high-quality versions. The floor itself always comes from the scan of the real product. Every result is labelled as an “AI visualisation”: on the page, and in the image and its metadata for high-quality and full-size versions. Colours and textures on a screen can differ from the real floor, so ask for a sample before you decide.
Your browser’s storage
The visualizer keeps a few things in your browser’s storage so you can come back to your photos: your session or account sign-in, the invite or personal link, and the room you were in. Nothing is stored for tracking or advertising, so the site has no cookie banner.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to limit or object to how we use it, or to receive it in a common format. Write to info@becausewescan.com. To find your photos we need your account’s email address. Without an account we can’t tell whose photos are whose, so delete them yourself in the visualizer, as described above; the same goes for your account.
If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
We update this notice when the website or the visualizer changes. The date at the top says which version you are reading.
